{"id":10255,"date":"2025-10-24T05:23:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T02:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rouvaliswinery.gr\/?p=10255"},"modified":"2025-10-24T15:26:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T12:26:09","slug":"european-distinction-for-theodora-rouvalis-wine-as-a-vessel-of-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rouvaliswinery.gr\/en\/news\/european-distinction-for-theodora-rouvalis-wine-as-a-vessel-of-culture\/","title":{"rendered":"European Distinction for Theodora Rouvalis \u2013  Wine as a Vessel of Culture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is with <strong>great joy and pride<\/strong> that we share with you a <strong>significant moment<\/strong> for our winery and for Aigialeia: the <strong>award of Theodora Rouvalis<\/strong> with the <strong>European Iter Vitis award<\/strong>, certified by the <strong>Council of Europe<\/strong>, in the category <strong>\u201cYoung Winemaker Investing in the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The award ceremony took place on <strong>October 17 in Thessaloniki<\/strong>, during the annual meeting of the Iter Vitis network, in the presence of representatives from many European countries: <strong>France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Moldova<\/strong>, and others. The award recognizes <strong>Theodora Rouvalis\u2019 contribution<\/strong> to <strong>mountain viticulture<\/strong> and to the <strong>production of high-quality wines with a strong identity<\/strong>, which highlight the <strong>memory, tradition, and landscape of Aigialeia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During her presentation, both in the morning and at the evening celebratory dinner, Theodora Rouvalis focused on the <strong>strong support that vine cultivation offers to rural areas<\/strong>, especially in mountainous regions: <strong>protection from slope erosion<\/strong>, <strong>natural barrier against wildfires<\/strong>, <strong>water management<\/strong>, <strong>retention of the local population<\/strong>. She also emphasized the <strong>added value that quality wine production brings<\/strong> to the <strong>economy<\/strong> and to the <strong>enhancement of a region\u2019s image<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iter Vitis<\/strong> is an <strong>official Cultural Route of the Council of Europe<\/strong> since 2009, aiming to <strong>highlight the cultural heritage of the European vineyard<\/strong> and to <strong>promote sustainable wine tourism<\/strong> in historic wine-growing regions.<\/p>\n<p>Theodora Rouvalis stated upon receiving the award: <strong>\u201cWine is \u2014 and always has been \u2014 more than just a product. It is a carrier of culture, memory, and identity. Let us continue to cultivate not only the land, but also the values that connect us to it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of the same event, <strong>the Oinoxenia Festival was also awarded<\/strong> for its contribution to the <strong>promotion of Europe\u2019s cultural heritage<\/strong>, as one of the <strong>most innovative wine-centered festivals<\/strong>.
